Offers OEMs the opportunity to test new devices with eSIM before commercialization

eSIM continues to gain momentum as it is embraced by leading handset vendors worldwide and garners support from mobile network operators (MNOs) globally.
eSIM INTEROPERABILITY

Simplifies the user experience, enhances flexibility, and supports eSIM global adoption.

eSIM interoperability ensures that devices with embedded SIM technology can connect to and use multiple mobile networks worldwide without needing physical SIMcard changes. It relies on standards and agreements between mobile operators and eSIM providers to enable seamless switching of networks and profiles on compatible devices.

EXPONENTIAL GROWTH

eSIM continues to gain momentum as it is embraced by leading handset vendors worldwide and garners support from mobile network operators (MNOs) globally.

According to Counterpoint Research, global smartphone revenues surged by 7% year-over-year in Q1 2024, marking a historic high for the first quarter ever, with eSIM comprising 18% of smartphone shipments.

However, as the adoption of eSIMs expands into new devices and MNOs activate subscriptions worldwide, industry concerns have arisen regarding interoperability and security issues. Given that eSIMs are embedded into devices, they present a distinct set of challenges compared to their predecessor, the physical SIMcard.

Device Makers Hassle

Key Challenges in the eSIM Consumer Market

Device manufacturers face significant hurdles in ensuring compatibility of their prototypes with various Mobile Network Operator (MNO) profiles across targeted markets. Typically, substantial resources are allocated to validate prototypes and conduct field testing to guarantee seamless interoperability with diverse MNO profiles.

The incorporation of eUICC technology further complicates the manufacturing process and presents validation challenges for device makers.

Failure of a customer’s device to download the mobile operator’s profile can result in escalated calls to customer care centers, operational costs, and heightened customer dissatisfaction.
